Homecoming Details: Royalty Nominations, Guest Permissions & Tickets

Royalty Nominations:
It's time for students to nominate two people from your cohort for homecoming royalty. Within each cohort, the two people with the most nominations will be added to the final vote for their grade. The final vote will take place on Monday, September 28th.

To make your nominations, fill out this form: https://forms.gle/3rHdTEqdznLsAqog9

Bringing Guests to the Dance
If you are bringing a guest from another high school, be sure to submit a Permission Slip by October 1. It must be signed by the guest's high school administrator so don't leave this until the last minute. Printed copies of the forms are available at the Front Desk and Attendance Desk.

Purchasing Tickets
Tickets are $25 in advance and can be purchased online or in person during lunch. Online ticket sales close for guests at midnight on October 1. Online ticket sales close for Credo students at noon the day of the dance. The ticket price at the door is $30.

Career Day Interest Form for 11th & 12th Graders

On Monday, September 28th, we are hosting a Career Day during Cohort. We have speakers from many fields who want to come share with you what they do in their work, how they became interested in their fields, and how they got started!

We are still fine-tuning the speaker groups, but please check your FIRST and SECOND choices of general career fields. We will do our best to put you into your first or second choice presentation groups.

Please complete this form by the end of the day on Monday, September 21st. If you do not, we will place you into whichever group has space available.

(9th and 10th graders, don't feel left out! Your Career Day is in November!)

Student Language Choice Reminder

We are hearing derogatory language around campus, including the N-word. Some students use it casually with friends, or because it appears in the music, media, or culture they engage with. Regardless of context or intent, this language is not acceptable at school.

At Credo, students may not use racial slurs or language that demeans or excludes others based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, or other aspects of identity. Words that feel casual within one group of friends can land very differently for someone else, and can undermine a student's sense of belonging and safety.

We expect students to be thoughtful about their language, both toward others and among friends. Every one of us shares responsibility for a campus where people are treated with dignity and respect.

Students can report concerns to any administrator, faculty member, or through the StopIt app.

Update on Food Program transition: next phase coming soon!

We're happy to report that we continue to make progress towards meeting the requirements of participating in the National School Lunch Program. We're optimistic about being able to apply for the kitchen infrastructure grant this winter.

In the meantime, we're also happy to announce that we've been given permission to transition to a less wasteful and better quality version of the meals that we're currently serving. Starting in October, we'll begin serving buffet-style meals to students. Unlike the current meals, which are individually packaged and re-warmed in trays covered with plastic, the buffet-style meals are prepared in larger batches and served to students at the time of eating. We've benefited told by other schools that the quality of the food is much better.

Something else that we're excited about with the buffet-style meals is that there will be much less trash. The meals will arrive at Credo in stainless steel trays that can be washed and returned to Revolution Foods for reuse. When served to students, we'll also be using fully compostable trays. The only trash generated from the food program after this transition will be the cutlery (unfortunately still plastic) and the milk cartons.

Free/Reduced Meal Applications still due
We're required to have all of these forms completed and filed by October 1. Students may pick up a blank form from the Front Desk, or you may print one out in English or Spanish. We will be contacting families this week with reminders to complete their forms.

Some parents and students have asked us why these forms are required even though California requires public schools to serve all students meals for free. This is a great question. The answer is complicated, but it boils down to how the state, in collaboration with the federal government, calculates the reimbursements that it provides to schools for meals served. Getting these forms completed and returned to us for every student helps ensure that we maximize the funding we receive for not just for meals but also for other programming. We appreciate your help!

Senior Project Mentors Needed

Every year our amazing 12th grader students each tackle a yearlong capstone project. Students choose the topics of their projects and they are expected to spend at least 100 hours over the course of the year working on it. A core part of the experience is working with and learning from a project mentor.

Students are required to have at least 10 1-hour meetings with their mentor. Mentors are not expected to complete elements of the project for the student.

We currently have a number of students looking for project mentors. We're asking our community if anyone can help connect a student with someone who could mentor them through their project. If you know someone who might fit one of these listed projects (mentors do not need to be Credo parents), please fill out this form.
